MANIC STREET PREACHERS: A LOVE STORY

April 27, 2017

Few bands attract such passion, love and devotion as the Manic Street Preachers.

And few fans feel for their band as keenly, or as fiercely as the men and women of all ages who follow the Manics.

Whether you’ve grown up with them through their painful formative years, or come upon them as they became one of the most successful homegrown acts of recent times, we’re sure you’ll know what we mean.

As the Manics’ tenure as our Artist of the Month come to a close, we present just a few of the comments from fans whose lives they’ve touched.

Love it and a favourite of my two boys aged 8 and 13. Classic Manics playing on a loop on our car journeys at the moment, educating the youth.
– Melanie Simpson

I’ll never forget playing ‘A Design For Life’ on my acoustic for the first time while singing, backed by the orchestral stealth version on the Gold CD.
– Carl Garnham

Your music has got me through many a difficult time – then and now. Thank you so much.
– Sarah Quinn

Such an important band, in a time of a massive void of creativity, charisma and credibility in pop music. Thank Christ they exist.
– Brian Devonshire

I sang ‘A Design For Life’ down the phone to my wife, which she recorded on a dictaphone. 20 years later I danced to it with my daughter on her wedding day.
– Gary Marshall

My friend and I sitting backstage at the Mayfair/Garage after gig talking to them and my friend taking thread off Richey’s trousers! So many fantastic Manic memories.
– Katrina Cunningham

Probably the most important British band since The Beatles! #Quote
– Paul Bedford

All my chihuahua-puppies are named after Manics songs.
– Marianna Turunen

I went from being an awkward 12-year-old with no direction to a professional writer with, the confidence to follow my own path.
– Kerry Ashdown

‘The Second Great Depression’ was the first time in a while where I could hear someone’s passion come through the lyrics and melody. I absolutely love this album for getting me through a lot of rough patches.
– Vanessa Harrison

My first Manics gigs were the two nights at the Forum in London May 1996. I was working 7am to 3pm and went on my lonesome. I have not been to a better show than those gigs since.
– Lachlan Moir

I’ve been a fan since 1994, but this will be the first time I get to see them live. I should be more excited, but it just feels surreal that I’ll finally be crossing the number one item off my personal to-do list.
– David Flewellen

A friend played me ‘A Design For Life’ in the playground. It was completely life-changing, the first step to the Manics becoming the most important band in my life.
– Scott Prestedge

It was 2008-09, I was incredibly unhappy and my antidote was turning up the sound when ‘Autumnsong’ came on & planning my escape. It will come as no surprise that the day I flew home, that song was on my iPod.
– Kate Dixon

One of the most vivid memories I have is lying on the floor, dead of July, listening to ‘Indian Summer’ and ‘The Second Great Depression’, feeling like I was going to explode, like those songs were too beautiful to exist.
– Sara Mantilaro

‘Send Away The Tigers’ gave me a break from me and took me to a place I’d forgotten existed.
– Lauren Watts
